► Plantation Shutters 101
If you are just beginning your quest for plantation shutters you may not
be familiar with some of the shutter "lingo". Allow us to introduce
you to a plantation shutter - one quality, hand-sanded part at a time:

Stile: Vertical pieces that louvers are mounted in.
Tilt Rod: A shutter’s tilt rod is the mechanism that controls the movement
of the louvers.
Louvers: The louvers in a shutter are the movable “parallel slats” that
are used to adjust the amount of incoming light.
Rails: Horizontal pieces at the top and bottom of each panel.
Appreciated for centuries in open, breezy homes of the Caribbean and the
stately Old South, plantation shutters now complement even today’s more contemporary upscale homes. In the 1700’s
plantation shutters were appreciated for their ability to block the
direct heat of the sun while still allowing in the cooling breezes.
Homeowners today
still want to block the direct heat and damaging rays of the sun,
and control privacy without sacrificing the beauty and warmth of natural
sunlight.
Plantation
shutters unite the past with the present. With the high standards
set long ago, the plantation shutter has been able to
transcend its original setting and lend beauty and ambiance to a
wide variety of home decors.
With each louver forming a perfect line, one after the other, the all-wood,
custom plantation shutter provides a room with a unique combination
of form and function . . . a beautiful design either completely open
or closed. But
when slighted tilted, the true beauty of the plantation shutter lies
in its ability to capture an atmosphere all its own. As the soft light
is reflected
up off hand-finished louvers it bounces off the ceiling and creates
a gentle, peaceful mood – creating a place to relax in the glow of
natural light. In today's fast-paced, pressure-filled world, everyone
appreciates an escape from the tension of everyday life. As more of
today's homes are designed
to offer the benefits of natural light, plantation shutters are now
more appealing than ever.
